The rules of the trade

The rules your website must follow.

Hospitality and retail sites answer practical questions under the law. These are the rules the build is shaped around. None of it is legal advice.

  1. Menus work better as pages than PDFs

A PDF menu is slow on a phone, hard to read with a screen reader and usually out of date. We build the menu as a page you can edit, so prices and dishes stay current.

  2. Allergens can be answered

Food businesses must be able to tell customers about allergens in the food they sell. The menu marks common allergens and tells guests who to ask, using the information you supply.

  3. The price shown is the price paid

Under the Australian Consumer Law, a displayed price generally has to include the compulsory charges. Weekend or public holiday surcharges show clearly on the menu as well as at the till.

  4. Returns respect the consumer guarantees

A returns policy cannot take away the consumer guarantees the law provides. The policy page states your change of mind terms alongside them, in plain English.

How it runs

From first call to launch, minus the headaches.

You see the page plan before design starts, and the design before we build. So there are no nasty surprises at the end.

Discovery

It starts with a call

A conversation about what you sell, who buys it, and what the current site is costing you.

What we deliver

  • Goals and constraints
  • Current site review
  • Competitor snapshot
  • Fixed quote with line items

Planning

We map what people search for

Every page in your sitemap matches a search people make.

What we deliver

  • Keyword and intent map
  • Competitor gap analysis
  • Page-level architecture
  • Build priority order
A crowd of people crossing a busy city street, shot from above with their movement blurred

Design

We design the pages

We design a system of parts, and we check every colour pairing for contrast before it ships.

What we deliver

  • Design tokens and type scale
  • Component library
  • Contrast measured to AA
  • Homepage and templates

Build

We build it and wire it in

We connect it to the booking system, CRM and ad accounts you already use.

What we deliver

  • Static-first architecture
  • Schema and structured data
  • Booking and CRM integration
  • Conversion tracking to Google and Meta

Launch

We launch and measure

Redirects mapped, Search Console verified, and a rankings baseline recorded before go live.

What we deliver

  • Search Console verification
  • Rankings baseline
  • Handover and training

The long read

Your menu is your best salesperson.

Guests don't read hospitality sites. They check them, and the site that passes the check gets the visit.

Give guests 3 answers before anything else

A guest arrives with 3 questions. Is it open, what is on, can I book?

Every second spent on a slideshow or a welcome paragraph is a second they could spend on the venue next door.

So we put those 3 answers at the top of every page and let the photos do the persuading underneath.

What a hospitality visitor is looking for
Visits that want this Everything else

Out of date is worse than missing

A guest who turns up to a closed door often doesn't come back, and often tells people.

It takes one wrong closing time on your website or your Google profile to lose that guest.

We set up hours, menus and holiday closures so you edit them in one place and they update everywhere they appear.

Every store needs its own front door online

A store finder with a map pin is rarely enough to rank in a suburb.

Each location needs a page of its own, with its hours, parking, stock and photos of the actual shopfront.

That page is what turns a search for a shop near me into someone walking through your door.

Headless CMS or WordPress: which one suits you?

Headless CMS or WordPress? A plain comparison of cost, speed, editing, security and upkeep, plus the 5 questions that decide which suits your business.

Questions

What venues and retailers ask us.

What you need to know before we start a conversation.

Not answered here? Ask us directly

Can we update the menu ourselves?

Yes. The menu is a set of simple fields, so changing a dish or a price takes a minute and doesn't need us.

Will it work with our booking system?

In most cases, yes. We connect to the booking platform you already use rather than asking you to change it. We check yours on the free strategy call.

We have several venues. How do we show them?

Each venue or store can have its own page and Google Business Profile, linked from one site. That way each one can be found in its own suburb.

Can we sell online as well?

Yes. Gift vouchers, merchandise or a full range can be added on Shopify, with click and collect from your stores where that suits.

What does a restaurant or cafe website cost?

Opening a new venue or rebuilding, you get a fixed quote with line items after a free 15-minute strategy call. Our brand and website package starts from $6,100 + GST.

Do you handle the photography?

We plan the shot list with you and can brief a photographer. Your own photos of the food, rooms and people do more than stock images ever will.
