Brisbane’s web design scene has grown up. Much of it still sits in Fortitude Valley, West End, Newmarket and Toowong, but some of the city’s best-known studios now do most of their work for clients interstate and overseas. Others have narrowed to one platform and become very good at it. For a buyer, that means the first question isn’t “who’s the best agency?” It’s “who’s best at the kind of site I need?”

How we chose them
We looked for agencies with a Brisbane base, a clear specialty and published work. We left out agencies whose sites didn’t load or refused our requests, whose only office turned out to be in another city, and any we couldn’t verify. No agency paid to appear, and none was asked.
We aimed for range: a premium studio, enterprise specialists, platform specialists and local all-rounders. Most Brisbane buyers should find two or three real options here.
Agency reviews
1. Website Development Group
Disclosure: this is us. We’re an Australian-owned studio based in Sydney, building websites for businesses across Australia, including South East Queensland. We run projects remotely with video workshops and shared boards, and we’re on the phone when you need us.
Every site we build is set up to show you where each enquiry came from. We connect it to your CRM, booking system and ad accounts, so each form, call and booking lands with its source: the page, the search or the ad. Our copywriters write the pages, so the words do as much work as the design.
- Best for: clinics, NDIS providers, trades, professional services and online stores that want a site measured in enquiries and sales.
- Core work: custom website design, redesigns, Shopify store builds, copywriting, SEO and conversion tracking.
- Proof: 100+ clients, Google Partner certified, and case studies including T3 Garage Doors, First Class First Aid and Stash Records.
- Honest watch-out: if you want an agency you can walk into in Brisbane, pick a local studio from this list. If you need a whole brand built from scratch, Josephmark operates at that level.
2. Josephmark
Josephmark is a design and technology studio with Brisbane roots and studios in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Los Angeles. It works across brand and identity, websites, apps and digital products, and games. Its published work includes websites for Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen, and a digital product for AMC’s The Walking Dead.
- Best for: ambitious brands and funded startups that want global-calibre brand and product design.
- Watch-out: it’s a premium studio with international clients, so it’s rarely the right fit for a small local business on a modest budget.
3. Zeroseven
Zeroseven builds enterprise websites on Kentico, Umbraco and headless platforms, with UX, strategy, support and maintenance. It is a Kentico Gold and Umbraco Gold partner, and names Mater, Goodstart and GIVIT among its clients.
- Best for: government, health, education and financial services organisations that need enterprise CMS builds.
- Watch-out: its .NET enterprise focus is more than most small businesses need, and it isn’t the place for a WordPress or Shopify site.
4. Digital8
Digital8, in West End, builds websites, ecommerce stores, intranets, web apps and iOS and Android apps, and offers SEO, social and Google Ads. Its case studies include Qscan Group, the ATO and Seqwater.
- Best for: mid-size and larger organisations that want websites, web apps and mobile apps from one Brisbane team.
- Watch-out: its range is very broad, so make sure the team assigned to you has delivered projects like yours.
5. Swanky
Swanky’s Brisbane team, in Fortitude Valley, works only on Shopify and Shopify Plus: builds, migrations from other platforms, redesigns, international stores and integrations. It names Brisbane clients Silk Oil of Morocco, Medley by Michael Hill and Blackstone Road.
- Best for: growing ecommerce brands moving to Shopify or scaling on Shopify Plus.
- Watch-out: if you want WordPress, WooCommerce or a site that doesn’t sell products, look elsewhere.
6. 224 Industries
224 Industries designs and builds marketing sites on Webflow, including CMS setups and campaign pages, with ongoing strategy and support. It has been a Webflow partner since 2020, and its work includes Rex Software and Easy Agile.
- Best for: tech and SaaS companies that want a marketing site their own team can update easily.
- Watch-out: it’s Webflow only, which won’t suit businesses committed to WordPress or needing complex ecommerce.
7. Greenhat
Greenhat, in Fortitude Valley, builds custom websites, B2B and B2C ecommerce, custom applications and integrations with finance, CRM and payment systems, and offers SEO and AI automation. It names Mental Health Academy and Natural Chemist among its clients, and shows Shopify Partner and AWS Partner Network logos.
- Best for: businesses whose site or store has to talk to their finance, CRM or payment systems.
- Watch-out: it displays award logos without detail on what was won, so ask for case studies close to your project.
8. Zoik
Zoik is a Newmarket agency that says it was founded in 2004. It builds WordPress sites, Shopify stores and Laravel apps, portals and integrations, and offers AI and automation, SEO, paid campaigns and hosting. Its clients include Caravanning Queensland, Outback Queensland and the Queensland Manufacturing Institute.
- Best for: Queensland associations, councils and established small to mid-size businesses that want one long-running local team for the site, development and hosting.
- Watch-out: its portfolio leans to associations and regional bodies, so consumer brands wanting a design showcase should compare portfolios closely.
9. Excite Media
Excite Media is a Toowong agency that says it was founded in 2006. It offers web design and development alongside SEO, Google and social ads, conversion optimisation, branding and commercial photography. It lists a 2024 Web Excellence Award for SEO, and McKays Solicitors among its case studies.
- Best for: small businesses and allied health practices that want a website and ongoing lead generation from one agency.
- Watch-out: marketing is a big part of its offer, so be clear whether you’re buying a website alone or a website plus a retainer.
10. BFJ Digital
BFJ Digital is a Brisbane CBD agency that says it was founded in 2009. It builds WordPress, Shopify, headless and HubSpot websites, and offers branding, SEO, paid media, GA4 and attribution. It calls itself HubSpot’s fastest growing Australian partner and names Swyftx, Griffith University and Sealy among its clients.
- Best for: marketing-led businesses, especially HubSpot users, that want the website tied closely to CRM, tracking and paid media.
- Watch-out: it’s a broad digital marketing agency, so check how much of your budget goes into the build itself.
How to choose a Brisbane web design agency
Pick the platform, then the agency. Brisbane has Shopify-only, Webflow-only and enterprise CMS specialists alongside generalist WordPress studios. Each is excellent inside its lane and a poor fit outside it. If you’re unsure which platform suits you, our headless vs WordPress guide sets out the trade-offs.
Separate the build from the retainer. Many Brisbane agencies bundle the website with SEO, ads and CRM work. That can be good value, but compare the scope of the build on its own before you compare packages.
Check the address against the client list. A Brisbane office doesn’t always mean the agency focuses on Brisbane businesses. If local knowledge matters to you, ask for local case studies.
Ask how leads will be tracked. A site that can’t tell you which page, search or ad produced each enquiry leaves you guessing where to spend. Ask every agency to show you a live example.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a website cost in Brisbane?
Scope matters far more than postcode. A simple service site, a Shopify store with integrations and an enterprise CMS build are different purchases. Compare what each quote includes, not just the total.
Do I need a Brisbane agency to rank in Brisbane?
No. Local rankings come from your Google Business Profile, your reviews and pages written for the suburbs and services you cover, not from where your agency sits. What matters is whether the agency understands local search.
Should I build on Shopify, WordPress or Webflow?
Shopify suits product sellers. WordPress suits content-heavy and service sites with editors who need flexibility. Webflow suits marketing teams that want visual control. Custom builds suit sites that need speed, security or integrations off-the-shelf platforms handle poorly.
How long does a website take to build?
Most small business sites take 6 to 12 weeks. Ecommerce and integration-heavy projects take longer. Content and approvals are usually what slows things down.
